I wish Johnny & Gavin Warwick would bring out a tune book together, all my fav tunes in one book, bliss ! (and it would keep the OH happy too if I were'nt buying books just to get one or tune tunes from them lol.

Hiya.

Yes, it's basic tabulature, instead of indicating frets, I indicate which fingers and "shape" to show finger placement.

The "key" was based on the tonality produced when you play the finger pattern starting from the open D string all the way up to the E string. The actual key of the melody is in Gmajor.

Theory note-- D mixolydian is just a fancy Greek word for a mode which occurs when you play a G major scale starting on its fifth degree, D (i.e., play D E F# G A B C D E F# G A, and listen to the quality of this modal scale). This chord will work if you're improvising over a D7 chord too... ;)

Here's a bit more, this isn't complete or edited, but (this is the music teacher in me talking) see if you can figure out where to place the first and second ending...

B section --
in this part there is an F natural played on the E string (F natural is a half step below F, or one fingertip back towards the nut)...

E- 0_____1__2_____3(in the A section) E F# G A
E- 0__1_____2_____3(this is B section varient). E F G A

Count.2+...3e..........1......+.3.+.....1.....+.3.+....(1e..tied 1)...+2+...3+

E_______________|_0h1___2__1____|_0___1_0____|_______|__________________
A_______0__1h3__|____________3_|___________2_|_(1h3__|_3)_______0__1_3___
D___3___________|______________|_____________|_______|____3_3____________
G_______________|______________|_____________|_______|___________________

Count.2+...3e..........1......+.3.+.....1.....+.3.+....(1e..tied 1)...+2+...3+

E_0h1___2__1____|_0___________|____________________||_
A_____________3_|_______3___2_|_3_____1__1h2p1p0__*||_
D_______________|_____________|____0______________*||_
G_______________|_____________|___________________||_

Will fill in this blank later.... This is a first /second ending situation I mentioned above. The above section repeats then it has a variation in the second pass and finally tags with a phrase like the end of the A section. (listen for CD to see how it's ornamented).

....... 1.........3..+........1......+..2...3.......1.........3..+.....(1.........tied.....) (pickup + 3 +)

E__2____1_0_|___________|___________|_____|____||
A___________|__3________|__1___0____|_____|___* ||
D___________|_____0_0_0_|_________3_|_(3__|_3)_*||
G___________|___________|___________|_____|____||

Hi, Ange. Here's your clue about the smilies: It was done by the BBCode, which uses colon+bar for that kind of smiley. Note that those two phrases have first and second endings. The first endings are marked by |1, which BBCode doesn't use for anything. The second ending was |2, but when you put a colon before it for the repeat, it turns into the BBCode for the smiley (plus a 2). It's just one of many ways that things can go wrong when you try to mix a computer notion like ABC (or any programming language) with HTML. BBCode is translated to HTML, of course, but in this case, the BBCode was the culprit, since it adds notation to HTML for all those smilies.

(I found this forum because I have a program that wanders around looking for music in ABC and a few other formats. It found the tune, but didn't much like the hyperlink to the smiley, which came out really funny when translated to MIDI. :) )

And I wonder if there's an easy way to turn the smilies off? Hey, there's a "Disable BBCode" checkbox below, and a "Disable smilies". I'll try one of them and see if the line of music comes out with its second ending:

d2D3D | {A}B3(3B/c/B/AG |1 G6- | G3 :|2 G6- ||

(Yup; in the preview it worked. So that's how you post ABC here: You turn off smilies, at least if there are any endings or repeat symbols.)
