So, I encountered a new band I've been enjoying. Mumford and Sons is an English (alas, but, you know, we find good music all over) band that recently released their debut recording, Sigh No More.
The main cut is "Little Lion Man."
Roll Away Your Stone
Seeing those, the interested will find multiple other options on YouTube.
Have I already mentioned Frank Turner here? I'm not sure I like the guy's politics (he's some kind of libertarian and explicitly denies the "socialist" label), but he writes songs of exceptional power and beauty (humanity, we might say). He comes out of the punk tradition (English band Million Dead) and is moving more toward trying to regain an English identity to his music.
Poetry of the Deed
Worse Things Happen at Sea (pretty intense stuff, I think)
Try This at Home in a radio station
Long Live the Queen (not that Queen)
My son introduced me to Mumford and Sons, after I had tried to introduce him to Frank Turner. He didn't like Turner because, he said, it was too dark, too political; he likes happy music. Then, I set down and listen to Mumford and Sons:
Thistle and Weeds
The usual eight hour drive taking him back to school turned into a twelve hour drive yesterday (weather and a rash of crashes that made for long crawls of the miles). I listened to this stuff and football games.
Happy belated Thanksgiving, by the way.
