OBD tunes in ABC notation

Postby Logan » Sun Mar 02, 2008 4:22 am

The Session has a nice collection of some Old Blind Dog tunes in ABC notation format, which can be converted into sheet music (ps, gif, png, pdf) and MIDI files. Just like tab or chord files you can find online these are not always perfect, but they can be fun to monkey with.

Another useful link: JC's ABC Tune Match

Too bad it takes me ten seconds to read each music note then ten more seconds to find out where that note is on the bouzouki.

Thanks Logan. I love The Session & have found many tunes on it I could not find elsewhere, but I hadn't run across this batch before. The comments and notes are always fun to read as well. I printed off a few and I'm looking forward to playing them with my new bow. Thanks again.

Has anyone ever come across the dots or ABC for Margaret Cromar ? I've not reached play by ear status yet (been playing 12 weeks now), im becoming more and more convinced this tune has been recorded under a different name to what its known.

Hiya,

What instrument? I have this tune transcribed for fiddle, mandolin or guitar... I can place it in flute notation too.

If fuzzy memory serves me, I believe this is one of Jonny's compositions.

Peace & Harmony~

Babs any chance you can do it in numpty format for fiddle ? I can cope with ABC format, but dont read music enough to make sense of your notations without many days pouring over a book lol.

Ah, that was just the chords (for guitar or accompanying instruments)
Here's the A section... Some of the ornaments are written in, this is just a rough sketch. I lost original file so did this from scratch, will post rest when I have time to write it down

Technical notes...
h means hammer next finger down, p means pull finger off string (sounding string in process).

Key... D mixolydian

0 is open string, and the 1, 2 and 3 are the LH fingers...

Cheers Babs !

I'd a momentary *omg I cant make any sense of this* for about 30 secs (never seen anything written in that format before) then grabed pen & manu paper & transcribed to dots & it plays !

I wish Johnny & Gavin Warwick would bring out a tune book together, all my fav tunes in one book, bliss ! (and it would keep the OH happy too if I were'nt buying books just to get one or tune tunes from them lol.
